Jo’s discerning eye is apparent in every photo she snaps. Her creativity is shown in the arrangement of colors, lighting, use of space and textures. She also has an uncanny ability to determine the precise moment to snap the photo - whether in candids, with unpredictable young children, or during fast-moving sporting events.
For example, in her featured photo of the January newsletter, Jo caught the tension of the moment unfolding in the Comenius Gym. The photograph caused me to visualize the next steps after the photo was taken where the defender fell, and the referee blew his whistle. Choosing to shoot the photo in black-and-white allows all the details to come forth so powerfully: the sweat and furrowed brow of the defender, the angst and anticipation of the two players in the background, and then the word “Love” ironically displayed on the sleeve of the charging player with the ball.
