On a recent trip to New Jersey, I wanted to find a unique location for a family photo session—something with flowers, open space, and blue skies. Enter: Shoppons Run Farm. A quick Google search brought it up, and after a friendly exchange, Peter, the horticulturist and owner, invited me to visit while I was in town.
Let’s just say… I wasn’t quite dressed for farm life. Silver ballet flats the day after it rains? Rookie mistake. But Peter welcomed me with such warmth that I didn’t feel so out of place.
He took me on a tour of the property in his well-loved golf cart, which he uses to move tools and supplies across the land. As he worked on aligning strings for planting, he chatted about the volunteers who help keep things running and the friend who brought in a machine to install steel tubing—saving him hours of backbreaking labor.
Peter shared how he came to own the farm and told me about his latest project: building a new greenhouse to replace the one down the hill. Although the fields were quiet that day, he painted a beautiful picture of what was to come—quinces blooming in March, peonies in June, and a stunning dahlia display by late summer. The quinces are late blooming this year. He sells the blooms, too, so check in periodically to gift your flower enthusiast.
As we chatted about farm life and flowers, I started snapping a few candids of Peter. It was a beautiful day - the clear blue sky, a sprinkle of clouds here and there, the gentle breeze, and casual conversation. He’s a true natural—both in front of the camera and in life.
And to think all of this came from a simple online search and a willingness to explore. I really enjoyed our conversation!
I love flowers and supporting local, passionate people! I enjoy finding new spots for my clients, especially when I get to explore a new location. The possibilities are endless! Photography gives me the chance to stay open and curious, letting connections happen in the most unexpected ways. It’s a big part of why I love what I do!
Support local! Peter sells blooms, so visit if you can! Take a look at the flower schedule. You may find yourself a new floraphile! Curious about farm life? Volunteer and say hi, tell him Jo sent you!

Sometimes all it takes is a quick search and a little kindness from a stranger to spark a meaningful connection. Big thanks to Peter for being so generous and kind!
